GOgroove DSLR Camera Backpack, Durable Protection with Style
If you’re packing a DSLR camera body and a selection of lenses, you need to protect them, especially if you’re on the move as much as I am, trekking in the mountains, hiking along a rugged coastline or just hitting the streets in a big city.
I’m a convert to the new GOgroove DSLR Camera Backpack from Accessory Power, having used a range of other camera backpacks over the years. GOgroove’s comfort can’t be understated, and they pack plenty of padding to protect my gear. I mostly shoot on location in some pretty rugged, dusty, moist or misty environments, especially near oceans or rivers -- or out in the middle of nowhere in the countryside or wilderness. I require something sturdy, rugged, comfortable and reliable.
The GOgroove DSLR Camera Backpack is designed for outdoor, active and on-location shooters. I stored by Nikon 80-400mm lens in the spacious top compartment and my Nikon D750 body with 24-120mm lens attached in the easy access side access pocket in the lower section of their full-volume backpack. My 35mm prime lens had its own interior, customizable and padded compartment, with compartments for additional smaller lenses, lighting accessories or, in my case, lens covers, batteries and filters. I loved the quick access, side access flap to the camera, avoiding me from having to open the entire front access zippered area to get at my camera. It helps keep gear better secured and free of moisture or dust.
There’s plenty of other easy access compartments in this lightweight backpack for filters, notepads and memory cards. On the right side of the pack, there are straps for a tripod. A tablet or 17-inch laptop can be inserted into a special flap compartment separate from the camera gear. A rain cover is included, too. Their smaller mid-volume GOgroove DSLR Camera Backpack accommodates a 15-inch laptop and camera set-ups with smaller focal length lenses. There’s a reason the GOgroove has a three-year warranty from Accessory Power: it’s made well and to stand up to the rigors of outdoor use. Strapped covers over the interior zippered compartments are attached by magnetized snaps.
The GOgroove Camera Backpack is big on comfort. Easily manage longer hikes to your shooting location, since the GOgroove has adjustable, customizable and padded shoulder pads and straps. It can be worn as both a two-strap backpack or one-strap sling, and includes a waist strap for weight management. When shooting on location when I didn’t need a tripod, I used the handy side tripod pocket for my water bottle. The only thing I’d like to see them add in future versions is a rigid, hard bottom to the bag that might stand up to an accidental drop or rough handling by others who might be fooled by the stylish outside as to the real contents inside.
Unlike nearly every other DSLR camera backpack on the market that tends to scream “camera gear inside” and “steal me,” the stylish GOgroove DSLR Camera Backpack masks its contents, to a large degree. Because it comes in several color combos and has a slick, outdoorsy feel to it, the GOgroove pack could easily be mistaken for a bag that might contain a picnic service set or school books. While visually attractive, the GOgroove pack does not immediately suggest that the contents inside might be worth upwards of $8,000 or more. Being discreet with my gear has always been a top priority, especially when traveling to potentially dangerous parts of town at night or to some developing world locales where curious crowds sometimes gather around gringos and the like.
